Chairman’s Statement – 12th November 2014

I promised to update you all as and when there was an update on the Local Plan Examination in Public, and a statement has been issued by the Inspector today.

It is not good news I am afraid as the Inspector has suggested that Cheshire East suspends the Examination for six months “to undertake the additional work required to rectify the shortcomings identified” or withdrawing it completely and resubmitting for examination when “all the necessary consultation and supporting justification and evidence has been completed”. Inspector’s Statement can be found here.

This really does open up the field for speculative developers to press ahead with planning applications, so be ready for something to come forth from Haddon at any stage. The forthcoming Local Elections next May also complicate the issues and the timings, so things really are up in the air. It would be easy to place all the blame for this at Cheshire East’s door, and they do deserve to be criticised for allowing this to happen, however we still need to work with them to fight off any developers.

In terms of speculative developments we have already seen a proposal go in from Gladman Homes to build 100 homes off East Avenue in Weston (behind the Primary school). Here is a link to the Gladman site where you can object to this proposal and support the Parish Council in their opposition to this development.

It would be easy to say better there then here, but we have to protect the whole of our Village and local area from further development, I believe this would lead to many hundreds more houses on the Weston Hall site.

Basford East, Basford West, South Cheshire Village (around Crewe Hall); where will it stop? Do we want to be a suburb of Crewe? Now is the time to stand up and support the community.

I am attending the Parish Council meeting tomorrow night (Thursday 13th November 2014 7:30pm), and I will provide an update from that meeting, however all residents are invited to attend so please come along and hear at first hand from the Parish Council and our local Cheshire East Councillors.
