If you missed it this morning, our own vice-chairman Trevor Sandry was interviewed on BBC Radio Stoke as part of the local plan exclusion, highlighting that whilst this is very good news, we still have a long way to go and our aim now much be protecting the amazing environment surrounding us, and ultimately the reopening of the golf course.

Local Plan Update – Good news…but the fight goes on!

We are pleased to announce that through the tireless work of the Committee, sub-groups, Parish and Ward Councillors, plus the Community who took time to submit objections, that the Wychwood Village/Gorstyhill site is not on the list of approved strategic sites within the draft Cheshire East Local Plan. The plan is however subject to adjustment and change before the point of ratification, through an examination in public which we expect to be in the Spring of 2014.

Whilst this is of course fantastic news, we must not lose sight of this only being the first stage of a much larger battle. During a meeting between our chairman/vice and Mr Peter Hunt’s (Haddon Property Developments Ltd) representatives, we were informed that they intend on submitting a separate planning application in the coming months for the full 900+ homes, irrespective of the local plan decision. It is their opinion that the local plan is not robust enough and that the land is developable.

It is essential that we build upon the growing community spirit we have, and are ready to fight again when the time comes. We must support the local plan and vote for its adoption – we will hold another meeting in the Village Hall within the next few weeks to go through the next steps and time frame between now and full adoption.

It’s not over until it’s over – and that won’t be until the golf club re-opens. Time to celebrate now, but be ready to fight again soon; apathy is not an option!

Bond Night Success

The Bond Night was a massive success!

The event was very well attended by members of Wychwood and the wider community, along with former members of the Gorstyhill Golf Club. Thanks to all of those people who made donations and to those who came and supported this event on the night – you have helped to raise over £3k to support our fight against the proposed development!

We would like to mention a special thanks to De Vere and Karen Delay for negotiating the room for free, also a big thank you to the Crockett family for providing the impressive collection of Aston Martins parked outside the Claret Jug (sorry about the lights!), combined with our appreciation to Neil O’Callaghan for providing the Ferrari in the Aston sandwich!

A massive thank you to GB Fun Casinos from Stoke who provided the props and roulette tables where virtual fortunes were made…and lost – if anyone would like to use them you can contact Paul Thomas on 07910 374078.

Also a huge thank you to our very own resident DJ Mark Kennedy, brilliant job Mark!
